Abstract
: Soil conservation is crucial for human survival and environmental well-being. Heavy metal pollution in soils can have far-reaching consequences, affecting not only soil quality but also air and water environments, ultimately posing risks to human health through the food chain. This study focuses on investigating and detecting heavy metal contamination in soil alongside railway tracks, a vital aspect of land transportation in China. While research on the environmental impact of road traffic has made progress, there is a notable lack of studies addressing the environmental pollution associated with railways. Unlike road transport, railway operations generate minimal dust and tire wear. However, other factors, such as friction between wheels and rails, vehicle maintenance, and improper substance handling during transportation, can contribute to heavy metal contamination in the soil. This research aims to comprehensively analyze the adverse effects of heavy metals in railway-side soil, providing valuable insights for railway construction and sustainable land use planning in these areas.
