Abstract

Reservoirs in China play a vital role in supplying drinking water, supporting irrigation, and fulfilling various functions essential to communities. However, these reservoirs face significant environmental challenges stemming from agricultural activities, including the use of fertilizers and pesticides, which result in substantial non-point source pollution of the soil. Moreover, issues related to domestic sewage from the surrounding areas, uncoordinated planning and construction of sewage interception facilities, and incomplete shoreline protection plans contribute to pollution risks in the water's ecological environment. This paper addresses the varying degrees of environmental pollution affecting reservoirs across different regions of China. It emphasizes the pivotal importance of reservoir water source protection and water quality improvement as integral components of ecological civilization initiatives that directly impact the well-being of local communities
