Abstract

The protein transition is the shift from plant-based to animal-based proteins in diets as incomes increase. This transition is unsustainable due to the environmental impact of animal protein production. In developed countries, there is a growing movement towards a new form of protein transition, from animal protein to plant protein. This study surveyed young adults in developing countries to understand their attitudes and preferences towards protein consumption. The results showed that young adults are aware of the environmental impact of animal protein production and are willing to switch to plant-based proteins. However, there are still barriers to this transition, such as the availability and affordability of plant-based proteins
