Abstract

Building legislation is a set of laws and regulations that define the establishment of cities, urban design, and land use. It plays an important role in shaping the cities and determining the shape of the different neighborhoods, building function, and facades. This paper discusses the impact of building legislation on cities, with a focus on the Arab world. The paper argues that building legislation can be used to preserve architectural and urban heritage, but it can also be used to damage it. The paper concludes by calling for more careful consideration of the impact of building legislation on cities
